Mozambican Detained in Shocking Murder of Kenyan Student Rita Waeni

Kenyan authorities have arrested a Mozambican national in connection with the brutal murder of 20-year-old student Rita Waeni.

Detained on Tuesday while trying to leave Kenya on a Mozambican passport, the suspect is implicated in a disturbing case involving extortion and dismemberment.

Rita Waeni’s disfigured body was discovered in a short-term rental apartment in Nairobi last Sunday. The family reveals that the killer, using her phone, demanded a ransom of 500,000 Kenyan shillings within 24 hours for her release.

Unfortunately, the family received the messages after her murder, making compliance impossible.

The murderer took Waeni’s head along with her phone and personal items.

Police are intensifying efforts to locate the missing head and match the suspect to security footage showing him picking up the rental apartment keys. Two other individuals of interest have been arrested.

Investigators, having accessed Waeni’s Instagram account, suggest that the killer lured her through the social media app.

The victim, entering her final year at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, becomes the latest victim in a series of women’s killings, sparking outrage and calls for the protection of women in Kenya.
